The iMpowered scholarship was created to support women and Indigenous students with financial responsibilities for their family, enrolled in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science post-secondary education programs of relevance to Saskatchewan’s minerals industry, complete their education and enter careers in mining.
To prepare for mining’s digital future and the new opportunities it is opening, the minerals industry knows it needs to attract new workers and support those who want to make mining their career choice. International Minerals Innovation Institute’s (IMII) minerals member companies – BHP, Cameco, Mosaic and Nutrien – have committed to having a workforce that is representative of the communities in which they operate.
A maximum of two new iMpowered scholarships may be given out each year, and each student will be awarded $25,000 which may be used to cover any costs associated with their efforts to attain a higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation. Awards may be renewable, at the discretion of IMII, for subsequent years to support a student throughout their post-secondary program.
The selected students will be recognized for their academic achievements in a program relevant to mining and for their interest in and skills relevant to a career in the mining industry. Applicants must be enrolled in a regional college, polytechnic or university program and intend to seek a career in Saskatchewan’s minerals industry.
Applications for the 2021-2022 academic year are now being accepted. The application form can be found at imii.ca/scholarships/impowered/. Applications must be received by June 30, 2021 to be considered.
The iMpowered Scholarship is part of a $510,000 commitment from the IMII, on behalf of its mineral industry and government members – BHP, Cameco, Mosaic, Nutrien, and Innovation Saskatchewan, to help build a diverse, inclusive and qualified workforce for Saskatchewan’s minerals industry.
