New for 2019, IMII’s Innovation Award will recognize the best technology product that has emerged from the supply chain for the minerals industry in the past year.
Building on the success of the inaugural Innovation Award in 2018 – which was presented to Prairie Machine of Saskatoon for their prototype Gopher ¼ ton truck, a battery-powered electric mining vehicle for use in both hard- and soft-rock mines (and now in commercial production by Rokion, a Prairie Machine company, as the R100, see https://www.rokion.com/trucks#R100), IMII is encouraging applications from suppliers to Saskatchewan’s minerals industry to have their innovative prototypes or newly commercialized technology products recognized by major mining companies including BHP, Cameco, K+S Potash Canada, Mosaic and Nutrien.
Nominations are to be received by IMII by February 8th and will undergo a merit-review selection process involving representatives of IMII’s mineral company members and Innovation Saskatchewan. The Award will again be given out on the eve of the annual Saskatchewan Mining Supply Chain Forumon April 3, 2019 at the World Trade Center (Prairieland Park) in Saskatoon, SK.
“IMII’s Innovation Award, and the participation of Saskatchewan’s leading minerals companies in its selection, is indicative of the importance and value the industry places on innovation,” says Al Shpyth, IMII’s executive director. “The Award also recognizes innovation-related activities in the industry’s supply chain and the large innovation potential suppliers have in meeting the needs of our members’ operations.”
